Finding Love in the Wrong Places

Message notes

Reflect on the Word.

Guard your heart and grow in biblical love, emotional maturity and forgiveness with Pastor Dr. Dideolu Olufelo-Adewale at Covenant Ways Church, Burslem.

Where do we look for love when relationships disappoint us? In this Sunday message, delivered in English with Yoruba passages on 27 September 2026, Pastor Dr. Dideolu Olufelo-Adewale invites the Covenant Ways Church family in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, to reflect on the love we receive and the love we show at home, at work and in our community.

Beginning with 1 Corinthians 13:4–8, the message describes love through patience, kindness, humility and truth. It asks us to notice how unmet expectations can shape our responses, and to take responsibility for growing in emotional maturity rather than allowing every feeling to lead our decisions.

Practical love takes attention. Clear communication, intentional companionship, gratitude and prayer are recurring themes. The invitation is to examine our own habits, listen with care and make room for growth in our relationships without pretending that disappointment does not hurt.

Proverbs 4:23 brings the message into focus: guard your heart. Pastor Dr. Dideolu Olufelo-Adewale connects this with self-reflection, accountability and spiritual growth. She also makes an important distinction: forgiveness does not mean going back to the person who hurt you; genuine boundaries still matter.

The message closes with hope for restoration from Joel 2:25 and prayer for wisdom, forgiveness and renewed purpose. The practical challenge for the week is to let change begin with our own choices: communicate thoughtfully, guard our hearts and take one faithful step towards maturity.

Key reflections

  • How can patience and kindness shape one conversation this week?
  • Where could you respond thoughtfully instead of letting a strong emotion lead?
  • What genuine boundary would help you practise forgiveness without returning to harm?
  • What time can you set aside for Scripture, prayer and intentional companionship?
