Reflect on the Word.
Move beyond information overload towards spiritual understanding, discernment and thoughtful choices with Pastor Dr. Dideolu Olufelo-Adewale at Covenant Ways Church, Burslem.
What is the difference between having information and having understanding? In this Sunday service from 25 October 2026, Pastor Dr. Dideolu Olufelo-Adewale invites the Covenant Ways Church family in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, to draw closer to the Holy Spirit and approach everyday life with prayerful attention. The upload includes worship and prayer; the main teaching begins at 33:50. The message is mainly in English with a short Yoruba discussion.
Continuing the journey from excellence and self-management, the message asks what we do with the information we receive. More data, books and online answers do not automatically bring clarity. Understanding involves taking time to reflect, asking meaningful questions and considering how what we learn connects with our responsibilities.
Isaiah 11:2–3 provides the central Scripture for the teaching on the Spirit of Understanding. The sermon encourages listeners to make room for the Holy Spirit rather than let noise, outward appearances or immediate reactions determine every decision. Genesis 1:2 also appears in the discussion of the Spirit of God.
Joseph and Pharaoh's dream offer a biblical example of understanding leading to action. In Genesis 41, the interpretation of the dream is followed by a practical plan for the years ahead. The message uses this account to encourage thoughtful preparation and a purposeful response, rather than simply collecting information. Genesis 41 is the Joseph passage discussed in the recording.
Practical reflections cover family life, work, finances and decisions about the future. The invitation is to consider the longer-term effect of our choices, seek God's direction and act with care rather than follow a trend unthinkingly. These notes summarise the sermon; they are not a verbatim transcript or medical, financial or emergency advice.
The service closes with prayer for understanding, discernment and a closer relationship with the Holy Spirit. This week's challenge is to identify one area where information has accumulated without a clear next step, set aside time for prayer and reflection, and choose one thoughtful action.
Key reflections
- Where do you have plenty of information but still need clarity?
- What could you quieten or set aside to make room for prayer and reflection?
- How could Joseph's example encourage thoughtful preparation rather than a rushed reaction?
- Which everyday decision would benefit from considering its longer-term effect?
- What is one practical, prayerful step you can take this week?
